COMMISSIONER CONTINUES FAMILIARISATION VISIT TO IKEJA LG, ONIGBONGBO LCDA


… Sensitises Community Leaders, Residents On COVID-19

In continuation of his familiarisation tour to assess the achievements, progress and challenges confronting Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in the State, the Commissioner for LocalGovernment and Community Affairs, Dr. Wale Ahmed has paid a working visit to Ikeja LG and Onigbongbo LCDA on Thursday.

Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner stated that the familiarisation visit was an interface between the people and the government to identify peculiar challenges, saying that the present administration prioritises relationships and dialogue with the grassroots.

Dr. Ahmed averred that the State government was determined to ensure that every community in every nook and cranny of Lagos are effectively carried along on the T.H.EM.E.S. Agenda of the government.

The Commissioner emphasised the need for LG and LCDAs authorities to sensitise their communities on ways to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus disease by complying with all stipulated guidelines issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

He urged members of the communities to report suspected cases of COVID-19 by calling the helplines, while advocating social distancing, avoiding large gatherings and regular washing of hands.

Ahmed also implored citizens who returned recently to the country from any of the affected Nations and those who may have had contact with anyone who has contracted the virus to ensure they observe 14 days self-isolation in order to curb the spread of the deadly disease. 

He appealed to the stakeholders and leaders of the various communities to ensure that the information is passed down to all members and residents of their respective grassroots communities.

In his welcome address, Chairman, Ikeja Local Government, Engr. Mojeed Balogun, applauded the Commissioner for the visit and commended the State government for its efforts at bringing governance closer to the people. 

He, however, appealed to the State Government to assist in the rehabilitation of Adegbola and Anifowoshe Streets as well as major roads that link others in Ikeja Local Government Area. 

On his part, the Chairman, Onigbongbo LCDA, Mr. Babatunde Oke, commended Dr. Ahmed for embarking on a working visit to the Council towards assessing the LGAs project achievements and how the State Government can intervene. 

He called for all necessary support from the State, especially on projects that will be impactful to the lives of the residents in the community.
