LAGOS COMMISSIONER BEGINS ASSESSMENT TOUR OF LOCAL GOVT PROJECTS

The Lagos State Commissioner for LocalGovernment and Community Affairs, Dr. Wale Ahmed, alongside Principal Officers of the Ministry, has commenced working visit to 57 Local Government and LocalCouncil Development Areas with an assurance that the present administration will partner all the local government areas to achieve its vision of a Greater Lagos.

The visit, according to him, is one of the strategies put in place by the Ministry to supervise all the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs as well as monitor and assess developmental projects embarked upon by the leadership of the Councils.

He added that apart from identifying the various projects embarked upon at the grassroots, the Ministry will also have an interactive session to identify challenges faced by the LGAs/LCDAs with the aim of proffering solutions for the attainment of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.

Dr. Ahmed, who started the assessment tour from the Lagos Island East and West LocalCouncil Development Areas, respectively, disclosed that the Ministry was determined to provide the support required from the State government.

He said, “the essence of this tour is for us to know what is going on at the LocalGovernments and Local Council Development Areas, how are they serving the people in terms of project deliverables, the relationship and the kind of projects they are presently executing”.

“Embarking on this working and assessment visit to inspect ongoing and completed projects in the local governmentshows that the State government identifies with the LGs and LCDAs”, the Commissioner asserted.

Speaking during the visit, a leader of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Alhaji Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, who was in attendance at the local government, commended the State Government for its grassroots-based projects through the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.

He, however, enjoined the Commissioner to appeal to the government to intervene in some of the capital intensive projects in these Local Government Areas, especially projects that are within the purview of the State government.

The Chairman Lagos Island West, Mr. Kamal Bashua in his remarks commended Ahmed for embarking on the working visit to the 57 LGs and LCDAs, stating that the visit is proof that the present administration is interested in the welfare of citizens at the grassroots.

Giving an account of his administration, Mr. Tijani Adetoyese Olusi, Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area said the Council had upgraded two health facilities that run 24-hour services, with the third one to be commissioned in September later in the year.

He also informed of the several road projects constructed and rehabilitated in Aroloya, Giwa, Oke-Arin Toluwo, amongst others.

However, a further appeal was made that the State government should intervene in the construction of Idumagbo and Adeniji roads which link the two local governments together because the roads are very strategic for commercial activities in the area.
