SECURITY: LASG CALLS FOR SUPPORT FROM TRADITIONAL RULERS

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged all Royal Fathers in the State to play their roles as traditional rulers by ensuring the safety of lives and properties in their various communities.

Speaking on Thursday during a courtesy visit of the Council of Obas and Chiefs led by His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Oba Riliwanu Aremu Osuolale Akiolu1, Oba of Lagos at the State House, Alausa, Sanwo-Olu enjoined the rulers to ensure that they are familiar with the residents in their domain and also ensure the safety of their communities to attract investors and boost economic activities.

Citing the recent unfortunate Ijegun pipeline fire outbreak resulting in loss of lives and severe injuries caused by pipeline vandals, he stressed the need to maintain premium vigilance on the activities in their communities and collaborate with the State Neighbourhood Watch by reporting any unwholesome activity noticed in their communities to security personnel.

He informed the Council that the accident that occurred last Saturday at Ijede while a boat was on its way to Ipakan Boat Jetty in Egbin Area of Ikorodu was due to overloading, lack of life jackets and darkness, hence the need to sensitise the residents to the dangers in night travel on water and commuting without life jackets.

The Governor also implored the Royal fathers to advise their communities to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roads and drainage channels in order to avoid flooding.

Earlier, His Royal Majesty and the Chairman, Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Riliwanu Aremu Akiolu I, Oba of Lagos, thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu and applauded him for his good works since he assumed office.

He assured him of their support on security, peace and full cooperation with the present administration so as to ensure a successful tenure and make Lagos State an investment destination.
